Information You Submit
Search Terms
When you type a name, location, or similar query into a search tool, that query is sent to the third-party provider that powers the tool. This site does not keep its own database of those search terms.
Messages
If you email us or send a contact message, we use the information you provide to review and respond to that message. We do not share message content outside our organization unless a valid legal requirement calls for it.
Information Collected Automatically
Like most websites, the site may collect basic technical information when pages load.
- Internet Protocol address.
- Browser name, version, and settings.
- Device type and operating system.
- Pages viewed and approximate time spent on them.
- Referring website, when one is passed by the browser.
- Date and time stamps for site activity.
Cookies
Cookies and similar tools help measure how visitors use the site and whether pages are working properly. You can block cookies in your browser, although some features or partner tools may respond differently when cookies are disabled.
How We Use Information
- To keep pages available, usable, and reasonably fast.
- To send search requests to the provider selected by the visitor.
- To understand which Buncombe custody, court, and facility pages are useful.
- To detect errors, broken links, and technical problems.
- To display advertising that may be based on general interests or browsing activity.
Links Away From This Site
This site links to outside resources such as the Buncombe Sheriff's P2C portal, Buncombe County NextRequest, the Sheriff's detention page, NC eCourts, NCDAC, BOP, ICE, VINELink, and third-party search tools. Once you leave this site, the privacy policy of the destination site controls that activity.
Advertising partners may use their own systems to recognize visits across different websites for interest-based advertising. That tracking is handled on their platforms, not in a records database operated by this site.
When Information May Be Shared
We do not sell personal information. Limited information may be available to the following parties when needed to operate the site or comply with law.
- Search partners that process lookup queries.
- Analytics providers that measure site traffic and performance.
- Advertising networks that serve or measure ads.
- Law-enforcement agencies, courts, or government bodies when a valid legal order requires disclosure under applicable law, including North Carolina public-records rules in Chapter 132 and legal-process rules.
Security Practices
We use reasonable safeguards for a small public-information website, but no internet service can be promised as completely secure. We cannot guarantee that unauthorized access, outages, or data loss will never occur.
Visitors Under 18
The site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and a parent or guardian may contact us to request deletion if a minor has submitted personal information.
Your Choices
- Ask for a copy of personal information we hold, if any.
- Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate.
- Request deletion of information that is no longer needed.
- Opt out of certain processing where applicable law provides that right.
Notice Updates
This privacy notice may be revised from time to time. When it changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with the new effective date or revised text.
